First day of personal lifestyle challenge

My roommate recently came to the rest of the household and challenged us to join him, starting the 12th of September (today!) to follow the "primal 30-day challenge". Essentially, what this consists of is eating healthy, working out, running, walking, and cutting down on grains, pasta and bread.

website Spam

I've been forced to delete all comments and disable commenting. I'm also going to be disabling registration while I clean up the accounts. It seems I was targeted by spam bots.

Update: Registrations are now set to require approval. I think the reason I didn't catch this until now is because one needed to be logged in to see the spam. So end result: their spam was entirely pointless.

Crazy Oracle SQL Dillema

I have an ASP SQLDatasource that is setup to insert a row into an SQL Database, as so:

InsertCommand="INSERT INTO HVK_PET(PET_NUMBER, PET_NAME, PET_BREED, PET_BIRTHDATE, PET_GENDER, PET_FIXED, OWN_OWNER_NUMBER, VET_VET_NUMBER, DOG_SIZE) VALUES (HVK_PET_SEQ.NEXTVAL, :PET_NAME, :PET_BREED, TO_DATE(:PET_BIRTHDATE, 'MM/DD/YYYY'), :PET_GENDER, :PET_FIXED, :OWN_OWNER_NUMBER, :VET_VET_NUMBER, :DOG_SIZE)"

Everything appears to be fine, until it hits the date, at which point, I get this:

An error has occured: ORA-01843: not a valid month

Teksavvy?

We have been considering a switch to Teksavvy for our internet (DSL). Any suggestions?

Internet Speeds

Lately our internet at home has been terribly slow. I decided to run a speed test (because while downloading a steam update at 1.1 MB/s I was no longer even able to browse).

The result:
Speed Test

Are they setting it up so only certain things can download at the speed I pay for?

Shopping results

So I figured that I may as well upgrade while I was at shopping and thus went with basically a whole new setup;

  • Motherboard supporting Sata 6gb/s, USB 3.0 and a built in decent graphics adapter - MSI 890GXM-G65
  • AMD Phenom II 6 Core processor with easy overclocking ability (didn't test it yet) - X6 1055T
  • 4GB Dual channel DDR3 ram - Kingston hyperx fb-dimm

Facebook added to blog!

I have now added Facebook login/registration to the blog. It is now really easy to connect here what with the facebook and twitter connection options as well as the default connection options!

Twitter added to blog!

I have now added twitter login/registration as well as some other twitter tweaks to this blog! Lookout twitter, here I come!

Shopping!

Today (after I sleep) I will be going shopping for a new motherboard for my computer. It has been out of commission due to what I originally thought was a PSU problem, but have now narrowed it down to probably being the motherboard. While trying to troubleshoot, part of the motherboard's CPU fan holding plastic snapped off and it's more trouble than it is worth to get my hands on a new one.

New Year, new Domain, new Blog!

I think that with the new year should come more learning and new advances. Thus, with a special deal on web hosting I have decided to start a new blog that will allow me to experiment and learn with new technologies and technologies I am not familiar with. Drupal is the first thing I am starting with.

Let 2011 be event-filled and educational but also fun!
